Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

VitC is responsible of various metabolic reactions like activation of Vit B1, B12, Folic acid, conversion of cholesterol to bile acids and the comversion of tryptophan to serotonin(neurotransmittor). It is an important antioxidant that protects the body from free radical damage by neutralising the single unstable electron on any atom especially oxygen.
Interpretation: The most severe effect of the deficiency of Vit C is Scurvy, causing bruising, gum and dental problems, dry hair and skin, impaired wound healing, depression, connective tissue damages, weakened immune system and anemia. Abnormally bent, coiled or corkscrew shaped body hair is a hallmark sign of Vit C deficiency. Additionally, concave, spoon shaped nails,dry and damaged skin, easy bruising, slow healing wounds, painfull swollen joints, increased risk of fractures, fatigue and unexplained weight gain are the common signs.
