Toxic goitre, one of the thyroid immune diseases, is due to the body’s own antibodies fighting against some molecules involved in hormone synthesis in the thyroid gland. These antibodies are Anti Thyroid Peroxidase (Anti TPO), Anti Thyroglobulin Antibody (Anti Tg), and Anti TSH Receptor Antibody. The hormone TSH is secreted from the pituitary gland and its function is to regulate the hormone production of the thyroid gland depending on the blood hormone levels. The recognition of TSH hormone by thyroid cells is realized by TSH receptors in the thyroid gland.
Interpretation:The TSH receptor antibody should not be present for normal thyroid functions. if it is present there may be hot flushes, heart palpitations, weight loss, weakness, trembling in the hands, menstrual irregularities, sexual problems, irritability, rhythm disturbance complaints related to alterations in thyroid hormone levels which are not been able to be regulated by THS hormone.
