Rheumatoid factors are proteins produced by the immune system, against healthy tissues of the body. RF test, is one of a group of tests used to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis (Anti nuclear antibody,Anti cyclic citrullinated antibodies,C reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate).
Interpretation: A positive test, will indicate that the patient has an autoimmune disease especially rheumatoid arthritis. It may also rise in cancer, chronic infections, inflamatory lung diseases such as sarcoidosis, mixed connective tissue disease, Sjorgen’s Syndrome, SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythromatosis).
