Protein

Albumin and globulin are the two main types of proteins in our body. The total protein test measures albumin and globulin. The test will be a good indicator of problems like signs of kidney and liver diseases with decreased synthesis and increased loss, fatigue or unexpected weight loss. Proteins are the building blocks of cells and tissues. They are essential for growth, development, and health. The main functions of albumin is to keep fluid inside the blood vessels and contribute to the osmotic pressure of the blood and functioning as transport proteins. Globulin is the main component of the immune system.
Interpretation:Total protein is a general health check parameter. It gives an idea about symptoms such as fatigue, kidney or liver disease, oedema, and unexplained weight loss, but the underlying problem should be investigated with other tests because proteins are the basic molecules of many enzymes, hormones, cell, and tissue building blocks, immunological molecules, transport, and storage proteins of various metabolic pathway elements.
