Plasmodium falciparum is a member of the plasmodium family of single- celled microorganisms. It is also called the benign malaria paracyte which cannot survive outside its host cell. It is transported to human, by the bite of a mosquito called anopheles.
Interpretation: The presence of one of the malaria antigens tested (P. falciparum, P vivax, P. ovale and P. malarie) show up with fever, chills, sweats, headaches, muscle pains, nausea and vomitting. These symptoms are similar to that of other infectious diseases, therefore this test is used to discriminate the cause of the infection.
