Osmotic Fragility Test

Osmotic fragility is the erythrocyte (red blood cells) resistance to hemolysis when exposed to varying levels of dilution of a saline solution. It inspects the red blood cells about their fragility.
Interpretation: In hereditary spherocytosis and thalassemia, red blood cells are more fragile than normal. Abnormal results may vary among the laboratories but thalassemia and Hereditary Spherocytosis are the expected diagnosis.
Sample: Arm vein plasma(HEPARINE). Nonfasting
Working day: Everyday
Result Time: 3 days 6:00 PM
