Magnesium(Mg)

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. It is involved in anumberand variety of cellular metabolic reactions including DNA synthesis, muscle contraction, signalling processes between brain and the body and many others. Mg counters the contraction effect of calcium and help them relax in the heart muscle. This process maintains healthy heartbeat.
Interpretation: Low magnesium levels cause weakness, depression, high blood pressure and heart diseases. When Mg levels are low calcium may overstimulate heart muscles thus leading to irregular heartbeat. High magnesium is called hypermagnesemia. It may be caused by renal failure or high dietary intake (usually in the form of laxatives or antiacids). Nausea, diarrhea, low blood pressure, muscle weakness anf fatique are the resultant symptoms.
