Apoproteins are proteins that bind to and help solubilize lipids which are hydrophobic. They bind lipids to form lipoproteins. In this way, they transport lipids together with fat soluble vitamins to the tissues where they are necessary. LDL-Cholesterol is the portion of Total Cholesterol which binds with ApoB, and it is called the ‘ bad cholesterol ‘ in common. This is because it is the lipoprotein that delivers cholesterol from the tissues to the blood vessels, bind to LDL receptors and play role in the accumulation of cholesterol in arteries causing atherotic plaques
Interpretation:LDL Cholesterol is the type of cholesterol, the levels of which which should be under strictly control as it has the properties of being easily oxidized and forms sticky arterial walls to trap platelets causing atherocyclerosis, heart attack, stroke and many other peripheral artery diseases.
