Insulin Like Growth Factor 2 (IGF 2)

IGF2 is an insulin like molecule which plays a role in growth and development before birth. Studies suggest thet, it stimulates the proliferation (division) of cells in many different tissues.
Interpretation: Although its function is before birth, it may act in an autocrine manner by binding to isoform A of the insülin receptor. This results in stimulation of mitosis. Insulinomas are tumors in pancreas which make more insulin causing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). This cause confusion, sweating, weakness and rapid heartbeat.
