Hydroxyproline

Hydroxyproline is a major component of collagen of all types. It is mostly used as a diagnostic marker of bone turnover and liver fibrosis. It is a reflection of osteoclastic activity and bone resorption because it is a product of collagen breakdown. Approximately 20-30% of total hydroxyproline levels are from bone resorption.
Interpretation: Urinary hydroxyproline levels are elevated in Paget’s disease as a reflection of increased osteoclastic activity
Sample: Arm vein blood. Urine (24 hr). Nonfasting
