Giemsa Stained Smear

Giemsa stain is a nucleic acid stain used in cytogenetics. It is performed in paraffin sections and used to stain the blood cells in the hemapoietic tissues and to almost all tissues suspected of presence of microorganisms.
Interpretation: Histoplasma,Leishmania, Toxoplasma and Pneumocytis can be detected with Giemsa. Helicobacter Pylori in gastric tissues is also detected.
