Free Prostate Specific Antigen

Free PSA is the fraction of Total PSA found in the blood without being bound to protein. The importance of Free PSA comes from the fPSA/Total PSA ratio. This value is an indicator of the probability of prostate cancer.
Interpretation:The total PSA value should be below 4.0 ng/ml to rule out prostate cancer. Free PSA/Total PSA ratio is an indicator supporting the diagnosis. If the ratio is below 0.25, the possibility of prostate cancer can be suspected.
Sample: Venous blood from arm. It does not require hunger.
