Echovirus (Enteric Cytopathic Human Orphan) is a type of virus that causes infection in different parts of the body. It is resistant to ether and alcohol and is most common in children aged 1 to 10 years. IgM-type antibodies are present in the first 6-8 weeks, which is an acute response. This is then replaced by IgG-type antibodies.
Interpretation:This virus causes upper respiratory tract infection and lung infection, especially in infants and children. Neurologic problems may be seen if there is cranial nerve involvement.
