ACA, is the antibody against an intracellular organelle called Centromeres and Kinetochores.They take part in the cell division process. They mediate spindle microtubule attachment and control the movement of chromosomes during mitosis and meiosis. The antibodies occur in some autoimmune diseases. Scleroderma is the main topic of these rare diseases.
Interpretation:Presence ot these antibodies indicate that, the patient has ACA antibodies and Cutaneus Scleroderma (CREST) may be suspected. Patients with this disorder have %60-80 ACA antibodies in their blood. Around %5-7 of ACA positive patients, develop diffuse cutaneous scleroderma. If ACA Antibodies are negative this means that the symptoms are due to another condution.
