Troponin I or Troponin T are special cardiac proteins found in heart tissue. They are released into the blood during a heart attack as they are absent in a healthy blood. During a heart attack there are markers of the severity of the case.The symptoms o a heart attack are, shortness of breath, neck and back pain, jaw pain, severe sweating, nausea and dizziness or heart spasms. In addition to heart attacks, they can also be elevated in balloon and stand procedures, kidney failure, after heavy exercise, pacemaker, inflammation of the heart muscle, myocarditis (inflammation of the pericardium). Troponin C is also related to the heart but and Troponins I and T are specific only to the heart muscle.
Interpretation:Troponin I is released in response to a heart attack but it may take 2-6 hours for it to rise after the attack.and remain high in blood for 1-2 days. Troponin T, on the other hand, rises much more abruptly in the crisis (first 1-2 hours) and quickly enters the blood. Thus, they have diagnostic value in the onset and duration of the attack. Troponins can be expressed as cTnI and cTnT. These stand for ‘Cardiac Troponin’.
