Retinol Binding Protein (RBP)

Retinol Binding Protein is responsible for transporting Vitamin A from the liver to the other tissues. It is freely filtered by glomerulus, rebsorbed and catabolized by the proximal tubule. This makes RBP a highly sensitive indicator of renal tubule dysfunction.
Interpretation: RBP test is used to assess renal tubular injury or dysfunction and screening other tubular abnormalities. Elevated urinary excretion rates, may indicate tubular damage associated with renal tubuloinsterstitiyal nephritis or tubular toxicity from heavy metals or nephrotxic drug exposure.
Sample: Urine (24 hour)
Working day: Tuesday
Result Time: Consult the laboratory
