Parietal cells are responsible for gastric acid secretion which aids in the digestion of food, absorbtion of minerals and controls the harmful bacteria. Parietal cells also release a substance that body needs to absorb Vitamin B12. Antiparietal cell antibodies are the antibodies against gastric parietal cells. If B12 is depleted, Pernicious anemia is diagnosed.
Interpretation: If Vitamin B 12 is low, weakness, tiredness or lightheadedness, heart palpitations and shortnesss of breath, pale skin, smooth tongue, constipation, diarrhea, loss of apetite, nerve problems, vision loss are the symptoms.
