Lipid Electrophoresis

Lipids are insoluble in blood, therefore they bind to proteins(lipoproteins) to be carried in blood. According to the electrical charge and electrical field mobilities of the protein fractions of lipoprotein molecules, it is possible to visualise the bands of lipoprotein fractions (HDL, LDL, VLDL) seperately.
Interpretation: The visual bands are fractioned and prepared for the clinician’s eye interpretation. The results are given as the percentage fraction of the total. Lipid electrophoresis gives the abnormal distribution and the fractionation of the lipoproteins to follow up cardiovascular diseases and other lipoprotein metabolim disorders.
Sample: Arm vein blood. Fasting
