HPV is a group of viruses that are extremely common worldwide. The virus infection is sexually acquired and most people are infected shortly after sexual activity. There are more than 100 types of HPV of which at least 14 are cancer-causing high risk types. Cervical cancer is the most common cancer among women globally. Both man and woman may be infected.
Interpretation:Two HPV types (16 and 18 ) cause 70% of cervical cancers and pre-cancerous lesions. HPV infections not resulted with cancer, usually clear up without any interventions and about 90% clear within 2 years. Some types may persist and cause cancer. Some other types may also cause (6 and 11) can cause genital warts and and respiratory papillomatosis (tumors in nose and mouth into the lungs).
