Factor IX is a protein belonging to the coagulatory system. If is found as a zymogen in the blood, the inactive state which turns into active enzme when needed.
Interpretation:The deficiency of Factor IX, leads to Hemophilia B which is an X-Linked inherited bleeding disorder, usually manifested in males and transmitted by females who carry the mutation in X chromosome. Hemophilia is a disease that prevents blood from clotting. In Hemophilia B, the body doesn’t make Factor IX which is one of the blood clotting cascade member and the cascade stops working properly.
