Anti HBe is one of the antibodies produced to defend the body against Hepatitis B virus. These antibodies are directed against the ‘soluble’ or ‘extractable’ part of the ‘core’ antigen. An Anti HBe test is positive while HBe antigen levels have dropped below the detectable levels. This leads to the impression that the patient is in the recovery period of Hepatitis B infection. If it is negative where HBs is positive, this shows that the infection is recent and viral replication has not yet peaked.
Interpretation:The existing Antibody type is the information about the phase of the infection. In normal condutions, none of the antigens or the antibodies are expected in blood unless the person is vaccinated against Hepatitis types. Vaccination results in the presence of IgG types of antibodies in one’s blood to protect him against possible Hepatitis infections.
