Hageman factor

It is a plasma protein which is the zymogen form of Factor XIIa enzyme. The role in clotting function or another function in the body is not yet well defined. It is believed to take part in tissue repair and the formation of blood vessels (angiogenesis). The incidence of its deficiency is 1:1000000. It is an inherited autosomal deficiency, meaning, both parents must carry the gene to pass it onto their children. It effects man and women equally. Collagen binds and activates factor XII. Dual role of collagen contributes to the clotting process.
Interpretation:The deficiency in Factor XII is a rare bleeding disorder, but it causes abnormal clotting rather than bleeding.
