Glomerular Membrane Antibody

The glomerular basement membrane is a part of the kidney that filters the waste and extra fluid. Antiglomerular basement mambrane antibodies are the antibodies that can damage the basement membrane and impair the filtration, while damaging the kidney.
Interpretation: If the antibody is positive, it means that there is an immune disorder attacking the kidneys (and or lungs). The patient may develop glomerulonephritis, inflamation or glomeruli (Goodpasture’s Syndrome) and the elimination function of the kidney is impaired.
