Free PSA

Free PSA is the portion of Total PSA circulating in the blood freely ( not bound to a protein). The importance of Free PSA comes from the proportion of Free PSA to Total PSA (fPSA/Total PSA) which is an index of prostate cancer possibility.
Interpretation:Total PSA should be below 4.0 ng/ml to evaluate prostate cancer. A supporting value is the Fre PSA/Total PSA. If this ratio is below 0.25 the incidence of prostate cancer becomes more suspectable.
