Fibronectin

Fibronectin is a high molecular weight glycoprotein found in extracellular matrix. It binds to the cell membrane proteins called integrins and involves in cell adhesion process. It takes part in a critical role in cytoskeletal organization, cell cycle progression, growth, cell survival and differentiation. It is also present during pathological progression of tissues during wound healing. Cellular interactions with fibronectin, lead to bidrectional crosstalk that regulates cell function.
Interpretation: Fibronectin functions in cell adhesion, growth, migration, differentiation. It plays important roles in woundhealing, embryonic development where altered fibronectin expression and degradation has been associated with a number of pathologies including arthritis, cancer and fibrosis.
