Estrone is one of the estrogens produced by the aromatization of androstenedione or from testosteroneI It is produced primarily in ovaries placenta and some peripheral tissues (especially in adipose tissue). Estrone may turn into Estriol and to estradiol by the catalysis of some enzymes. After menopause it is the primary circulating estrogen. It is used to treat abnormalities related to gonadothropine hormone dysfunction, vasomotor symptoms, atropic vaginitis, vulvar athropy and osteoporosis associated with menopause.
