Epinphrine also known as Adrenaline is a hormone secreted by the medulla of the adrenal glands. Strong emotions like fear or anger cause epinephrine to be released in blood stream which causes increased heart rate, muscle strength, increased blood pressure and enhanced sugar metabolism. It does this function, by binding alpha and beta adrenergic receptors. When used for medication , it functions as a member of a class of alpha and beta adrenergic agonists working by relaxing respiratory muscles and tightening the blood vessels. Epinephrine with norepinephrine is also used in the diagnosis of pheochromacytoma/paragangliomas because they are released high, causing high blood pressures and other characteristic symptoms .
Interpretation: Interpretation: If epinephrine is high in blood, excessive sweating, rapid irregular heartbeat and high blood pressure, blumed vision, pounding in the neck or ears, chills, chest pain and caugh with foamy mucus are the resultant reactions. A tumor increasing the catecholamine (epinephrine, norepinephrine, adrenaline) is the main metabolic fact of endogenous increase (pheochromacytoma, paraganglioma) . Low values may be treated by exogenous injections with clinician’s advice and treatment protocol.
Sample: Arm vein blood,Urine (24 hr urine sample would be better because the hormone levels vary very quickly in blood and spot urine. Nonfasting
