Eosinophil

Eosinophil sometimes called acidophyls are a group of white cells and one of the immune system cells responsible of inflamations caused by allergic reactions. It is also one of the whole blood test components These cells give colour by eosin dye in blood smears and its name is derived from this property. Eosinophils are mostly found in connective tissues, digestive tract tissues and respiratory mucosa.
Interpretation: Eosinophil levels whether high or low ,do not give an idea to diagnose a certain disorder by itself, but together with the complaints of the patient, examination and symptoms of the disease can contribute but still confirmatory lab tests may be needed for the end decision. High eosinophyl levels is called eosinophily. This may be seen in allergic condutions, intoxication, some skin diseases, parasytic diseases, immune deficiencies, some malign neoplastic diseases, collagen tissue disorders, ulcerative cholitis, gastritis, some kidney disorders and Addison’s Disease. Low eosinophil levels may be seen in acute stages of infectious diseases, anaphylaplactic shock, corticosteroid treatment after stress and Cushing Syndrome. However, low eosinopiyl levels are mostly nonconsiderable for the clinician.
