Ceruloplasmin(CP)

Ceruloplasmin is a protein made in the liver to store and carry copper from the liver to the bloodstream. Copper is a mineral that takes part in building strong bones, producing energy and production of melanin (Substance which gives the color of the skin).
Interpretation:If the copper is high in the body correlated with high ceruloplasmin, the most important disease related to copper metabolism is Wilson Disease which is a rare genetic disorder resulting with the inability of the body to remove excess copper. This may cause dangerous build up of copper in the liver, brain and other organs. In pregnancy and using birth control pills ceruloplasmin rise may be expected unpathologically. If copper is low there might be malnutrition, malabsorbtion and liver diseases. This results in symptoms like anemia, jaundice, nausea, abdominal pain, swallowing problems, tremors, walking disability, changes in behaviour pale skin, low levels of white blood cells, osteoporosis, fatique, brittle hair, failure to grow, lack of muscle tone and seizures.
