Cancer Antigen 72-4 (CA 72-4)

CA 72-4 is a cancer antigen protein. It is a type of tumor marker. Tumor markers are substances produced by cancer cells or normal cells in response to cancer in the body. It is elevated in gastric cancer and adenocarcinomas (mucus-producing secretory cells). Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and Ca 19-9 also support gastric cancer findings. The combination of these three markers could be a useful screening for gastric cancer. Ca 72-4 can also be determined in patients with breast, colon, ovarian and pancreatic cancer.
Interpretation:Lower values are only important for monitoring the treatment of gastric cancer patients. It can be valuable to monitor high levels for high values and cancer progression.
Sample: Venous blood from arm. It does not require hunger.
