The role of this enzyme in body biochemistry is to break down the bonds in various carbohydrate compounds with hydrolysis. Therefore, it has crucial duties in the use and transformation of carbohydrates.
Interpretation:In the absence of this enzyme (hereditary), the results are decrease in the synthesis and metabolism of reticuloendothelial system cells. Glucosylseramides accumulate in lysosome of the cells, splenomegaly (spleen expansion), hematological disorders and bone marrow abnormalities may be observed. Gaucher’s disease may be observed as a result of a lack of glucosylseramides.
