Basophils are the least abundant cells in the leukocyte family, called granulocytes. They may increase due to contact with an allergen or an infection. In some cases, an increase can be observed in patients with cancer.
Interpretation:Basophils are responsible for the secretion of heparin and histamine. When human body loses its resistance to allergens, basophil cells are synthesized in the bone marrow to overcome the effects. When they are located in tissues, they are called mast cells.
