Thyroid hormones are synthesized and secreted in blood to regulate thyroid metabolism. These functions include body temperature, muscle strength, and many related functions. Thyroglobulin is a protein in thyroid cells. The thyroid uses thyroglobulin to produce active thyroid hormones. Thyroid peroxidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of thyroid hormones from thyroglobulin. Antibodies to this enzyme prevent the proper production of thyroid hormones.
Interpretation:High levels of anti-TPO may indicate diseases associated with several autoimmune disorders, such as Graves’ disease or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Some related investigations are needed to reach the underlining cause of the high levels of Anti Microsomal Antibodies.
