Bacteria that provide the energy they need through oxygen-free respiration are called anaerobic bacteria. They are found in the flora of the skin, urinary tract, mouth and intestines. They cannot survive in an oxygenated environment. They provide energy only by the breakdown of organic substances (e.g., the energy released during the conversion of sugar into alcohol with the help of yeast enzymes). Anaerobic bacterial infections include dental infections, chronic sinusitis, chronic otitis media, peritonitis, liver infection, intra-abdominal abscess, ovarian inflammation, diabetic wound infection, brain infections, bite inflammation, and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
Interpretation:If the anaerobic infection is detectedit can be treated with broad-spectrum anti-anaerobic antibiotics prescribed by the doctor. In addition, surgical removal of the inflamed tissue, if possible, is the second form of treatment.
