It is an enzyme found mainly in the skeletal muscles, brain and liver. It helps metabolizing sugars for energy . If the cells containing the enzyme are damaged, the enzyme is released in blood.
Interpretation: If it is high, it means that there is a liver damage with any reason. Low levels indicate malnutrition and severe liver diseases where this enzyme cannot be synthesized.
